Getting to know the Museum in an educational and interactive way
Tours of the Museum are organized according to the age of the participants and the types of discourse used on tours are varied and personalized. The tours are also different depending on the desired itinerary and the exhibition program on the date of the visit. On average, the visit lasts 1 hour and includes the permanent and/or temporary exhibition, a tram tour and the educational material, aimed at interacting with the groups.
The workshops start with a game-tour; however, the questions are related to the theme of the workshop that will be developed, thus allowing a direct link between the Museum’s exhibition/collection and the activity. Different experiences are provided and different themes within the Museum’s area of expertise are addressed. Interdisciplinary courses are proposed, targeting different age groups and training areas.

After visiting the Museum, we will recreate a landscape with a tram. Each child will have a basic image (in mosaic) they must fill in by gluing several pieces of materials, mainly everyday garbage (collected by the Museum team) and waste from other workshops. This activity is inspired by artists who work with garbage and recycle it into fabulous works of art. For example, the Brazilian artist Vik Muniz or the Portuguese artist Bordalo II.

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process in blue tones, which produces an image in cyan/blueprint. The process uses two chemicals: ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. The development is obtained by exposure to sunlight or in a dark room. The objective is to reproduce images starting from objects or negatives on glass or plate, create imaginative and harmonious compositions and learn the technique so as to replicate it in future activities. In this workshop you can learn this technique, create compositions and take home your photographic experiences.

Marbled paper is used as a decorative coating on the inside and outside of books. It can be produced by two techniques: oil paint in an aqueous medium or acrylic paint over tylose. The process produces patterns similar to marble or other stones. The patterns are the result of ink droplets that float and are transferred to the absorbent surface of the paper. Each impression is unique – monotypic. The objective of this workshop is to teach this technique from bathing to drying, so that participants can create their own papers as art on itself or for later use in binding.

Activities monitors
TEAMAll the activities carried out by the Educational Service of Museu da Carris are accompanied by a team of specialized monitors with training in the different cultural and educational areas and experience in several national and international Museums.
Safe activities
COVID-19In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Museum organizes its activities according to the safety measures of the General Health Directorate (GHD), ensuring that the Workshops and Tours are carried out with protection and safety for all participants. All Museu da Carris’ employees wear a mask. The monitors received specific training on Covid-19. The spaces comply with the recommendations of the GHD and the cleaning and disinfection of the spaces is carried out daily. The Museum has an elaborated Contingency Plan and an isolation room. Find out the detailed information on the safety measures that have been implemented for the activities.
- Everyone aged 6 or more years must wear a mask inside the Museum.
- Everyone must maintain a distance of 2 meters, especially in situations where the mask is not mandatory.
- The groups must wait in line under the archway at the entrance to Museu da Carris, maintaining a distance of about 2 meters between each person.
- At the entrance to the Museum, they must wash their hands with the disinfectant provided by the Museum.
Groups (up to 25 children) are divided up to about 10 children per monitor.
- For the workshop, the group is divided up to 10 children and the visit and workshop will be done alternately. One group will work on the activity while the other group takes the tour and then both groups change.
- During this period, individual production workshops are privileged in order to avoid sharing and working together. This does not mean that the final work will not be a team project.
- All materials for individual use are previously prepared and disinfected.
- The distance between each child is ensured by distributing only two/three children per table, depending on its size.
- It may happen that the monitor gives specific instructions to remove the mask at some point during the activity. That will only happen when safety distance can be maintained at all times or when the activity takes place outdoors.
- During this period, children are not allowed to sit down on the floor in a circle or to enter the Museum’s vehicles (closed to the public).
- Objects should not be touched.
- In the tram that runs between the 2 centers of Museu da Carris, the back entrance should be used and a seat should be left empty between each child.
If no previous transfer has been made (with proof of payment), payment must be made in cash (at the ticket office) or by ATM (at the Museum shop).
